Day 1: An Introduction, Some Helpful Tools and an Overview

Introduction

Welcome to your first of 10 days in the Create A Website series. If you've made it this far, you're already 50% done!

I take it that creating a website seems like an intensely challenging task to you. Before we get started, I would like to let you know that it isn't!

The problem is that no one explains it properly, which can make it seem more difficult than it actually is. Well, worry no more - this course will explain everything clearly.

Overview

The website we're going to be creating will be a simple, informative website. That is, the purpose of the website will be to spread information to the world.

Building this website will be split into 3 phases:
  • Phase 1: Creating the site back bone and structure
  • Phase 2: Designing the website
  • Phase 3: Implementing the design of the website with the site back bone
If any of these phases scare you, I have two words for you... DON'T WORRY! Everything will be explained in detail and full clarity.

Useful Tools

Throughout our journey to Create a Website in 10 Days, we will be carrying out various tasks, such as writing some code and designing a few graphics. To help us carry out these tasks, we will need some tools:

This program is like a super-sized, caffeine-pumped version of Windows Notepad. It's what we'll be using to write our code. On top of that, Notepad++ is 100% free!

This is the program we're going to be using to design our graphics. It's a heavy-duty, wonderful image design program that I can't live without. However, the price tag is quite hefty. If you're looking for a free alternative, try GIMP, a similar program.

Tool #3: ..............

Were you expecting more tools? There aren't any! The 2 above are the only ones you need to build a website.

Go ahead and install these tools. They're fairly straight-forward to install, but if you run into any issues, don't hesitate to post a comment below!

End of Day 1

You're now 10% through the course. Easy enough, eh? When I first started learning about website development, I encountered many difficulties. I've been where you are now

I know where you're coming from. And this course will make the journey of learning how to create a website a whole lot easier!
